International Canyoning Accident Database
The International Canyon Accident Database (ICAD) is a global project, endorsed by the Federation for International Canyoning (FIC) and run by the Coalition of American Canyoneers, that collects and shares information about canyoning accidents, near misses, and incidents from around the world. It’s designed to help the canyoning community learn from what goes wrong, so we can all be safer out there. Anyone - whether you’re a guide, recreational canyoner, or part of a rescue team - can report an event. The stories are kept anonymous, and the focus is on understanding what happened and why. By spotting patterns and common causes, ICAD helps improve training, gear choices, and risk management, while encouraging a culture of openness and learning within the sport.
Submit a report
If you’ve experienced or witnessed a canyoning incident or near miss, help others learn by sharing your story with the ICAD - it could make a real difference. As a thank you, Canyoning Australia will send you some canyoning platypus and kangaroo stickers for free.
