Queensland Canyoning
Canyoning Australia has formally written to the Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service (QPWS) regarding the prior closure of Lamington National Park canyons, and lack of consultation with the Canyoning Australia and the local canyoning community. We also raised concerns about the status of Burnett Creek canyon in Mt Barney National Park, given internal documents identified in Right To Information disclosures and the current update of that park’s Management plan.
While Lamington closure remain problematic, we are pleased to advise that:
QPWS have confirmed in writing that they no longer have any plans to declare Burnett Creek canyon a “restricted access area” so it will remain open for canyoning; and
QPWS have committed to future consultation with Canyoning Australia on management plans for parks where canyoning occurs.
