Pull test examines breaking strength of a Fiddlestick

Post by T2 » 30 Sep 2019, 15:14

I've had a few people ask me how strong Fiddlesticks are. What they really want to know is whether there is any chance of failure in normal usage scenarios.

Andrew Humphreys from Rigging for Rescue in Colorado, USA, recently put the original Fiddlestick from Imlay Canyon Gear in a test rig for a destructive pull test. Below is the video of the test. It found the Fiddlestick endured 10.8kN of force before it began to deform, failing at 11.6kN.

To put this in context, even a heavy abseiler with a full pack shouldn't impart more than a couple kilonewtons of force on the rope / anchor.
