Great video Craig. Thanks so much for that. I rarely use an 8, but I'll be sure to show this technique to anyone I take on trips who is using one.

Flipping the 8 on the carabiner is a handy trick, though I don't always show it to beginners. Depends a bit on how much info I think they can absorb.
I do use the "Into the frying pan, over the handle" mnemonic to make sure they rig the 8 with the rope running on top, in order to avoid girth hitches.

I filmed the frying pan skit but decided against including it in the video as the clip and flip method reduces the risk of dropping the 8 when nerves are shakey at the top of your first canyon abseil or the adrenaline is twitchy at the bottom as you unclip in a deep pool
