Essential maintenance work at the Scenic Railway has blocked access to the Federal Pass track. Combined with the ongoing closure to the Golden Stairs following a landslide last year, this means there is no walking access around the western end of the valley.
According to the alert posted on the Blue Mountains National Park website, there is no walking access out of the valley below the Malatia Point, Malatia Wall and Castle Head abseil routes.
No word on how long the closure will be in place, but it removes these wet / colder weather alternatives to a canyoning trip.
