Pipeline Track closure

Post by T2 » 15 May 2018, 12:02

The northern end of the Pipeline Track (between Glen Davis and Newnes) has been closed for several years due to a dispute with a private landowner whose property it runs through. This closure does not impact on access for most nearby canyons (such as Pipeline, Devils Pinch, Nightmare, and Newnes / Starlight), as they are accessed from the southern end.

If you do need to access this area, it is possible to avoid the closed section of track.

Be aware that the topographic map shows the track as being several hundred metres east of where it actually runs (this is completely wrong).

The image below shows the route of the track (Blue), the closed section on private property (Black), and the detour around this private property (Red).

There is reportedly a footpad developing along the detour route, which should make access easier going forward.

G'day T2. Love the website. I have spoken to the landholder at the pipeline track and understand the NPWS are negotiating an easement over the Glen Davis end of the track. This would enable access by the general public. Hopefully soon.

Marty, that's amazing news. Given how many years this had been dragging on I'd pretty much given up on the track being reopened. Keep us posted if you hear more.
