Coorongooba campground and canyons closed

Post by T2 » 03 Jun 2020, 12:17

National Parks have closed the Coorongooba campground and surrounding areas -- including canyons -- for infrastructure upgrades following the bushfire and floods.

This closure impacts the campground, surrounding trails, and canyons (including Coin Slot and Freshwater Creek)

It is scheduled to last until Friday 25 September 2020, but it may vary.

Coorongooba campground is open (as are the surrounding canyons) but a wet winter means vehicle access remains an issue.

According to National Parks, the causeway crossing the Capertee River is currently only suitable for 4wd vehicles.

The most recent update says the water is about 400mm above the causeway and is unlikely to fall significantly for several weeks.

If you're planning a trip out there, make sure you have access to a high-clearance 4wd so you can get across safely.

Coorongooba campground (and the canyons accessed from this area) are closed while National Parks upgrades the road and campground.

I've spoken to National Parks and confirmed that this closure isn't just restricted to the campground, but to all access (including day trips). The area is closed at the park boundary, west of the causeway across the Capertee River.

The current closure continues until Friday 26 March 2021. The area will reopen for the school holidays, before being shut again between Monday 19 April to Friday 7 May 2021.
