Grand Canyon walking track one way

Post by T2 » 12 Jan 2021, 13:16

National Parks are currently undertaking a trial of requiring walking on the Grand Canyon walking track to only go in one direction. This trial is running until the end of January.

During this time you need to descend via Evans Lookout, then exit at Neates Glen.

It seems the motivation for the change is growing visitor numbers, causing congestion on the track at busy times.

Unfortunately, the chosen walking direction is pretty inconvenient for canyoners. It requires you to do walk the canyon section three times. It would make things much easier if the walking direction was the other way (down from Neates Glen, ending at Evans Lookout).

Assuming the current one way rule is extended, and kept in the current direction, then the shortest / easiest option for undertaking Grand Canyon will be via the Pilcher Track from near the old airfield.
