About 6.45pm on Saturday 7 July 2018 an EPIRB was activated on the Newnes Plateau.
The EPIRB was registered to a Canberra man who advised emergency services his daughter, another woman and a man, all aged 28, had taken it during a trip through Tiger Snake Canyon.
A search involving Police, Ambulance, Lithgow Volunteer Rescue Association, and several helicopters commenced at 7.30am on Sunday 8 July 2018.
About 10am the group were located. All three were winched out before being assessed by paramedics.
Conditions were extremely cold overnight, with wind gusts of up to 90km/h and temperatures just above zero.
It is believed the group made a navigational error while exiting the canyon. At some point prior to the rescue, one of the party suffered an injury and was unable to walk, which was the reason the group were winched out despite the strong winds and challenging conditions.
I don't have details of precisely where the group became lost, how and when the injury occurred, and where they were located. If someone involved has more information about what went wrong, and suggestions for how it could have been avoided, that would be great.

Re: Rescue - Tiger Snake Canyon - 8/7/18
Interesting one. I took a party through tigersnake the week before and the exit track along the base of the cliff line is very prominent. In fact it's too prominent (the wrong track is clearer than the correct track). It goes straight past the exit gully and continues on another couple hundred meters till it fades out over rocks. It's a very clear track until you determine that you have missed the exit gully and walk back.. The exit gully is no where near as prominent as the continue track. Anyway glad they are safe and well and they took emergency precautions and PLB.
