Camera found after two years lost in a canyon

This is a little bit cheeky, given the camera (and the precious photos it contained) have already made their way home, but it's such an amazing story it's worth sharing.

On New Years Day, 2016, Kshitij lost his Olympus Tough TG-2 camera in a canyon near Glen Davis. It wouldn't have been too bad, except it also contained his photos from the previous five days where he'd been part of an exploratory canyoning trip in the Coorongooba Creek area.

What was remarkable is not just that the camera was located at all -- it was lost in quite a long, deep canyon -- but that the SD card had survived two years of being pummelled every time rain hit the canyon.

And to make things even more unlikely, the camera was found by Paul Griffiths on another Sydney Uni Bushwalkers trip, so it's proof bushwalking clubs look after their own!

Below are a few of the photos that were recovered. You can read Felix's trip report for more details of where they were taken.

That's a sketchy traverse in pic 3. The Santa hat is as good as a helmet

I'd like to say the photo just made it look bad, but I think it was even worse in real life!

Yeah, it was sketchy. The only reason I'm smiling in the photo is because I was past the worst bit!
You'll be happy to know that the Santa hat was attached to his helmet though :-)

Wish I could get mine back from the big jump in Fortress. My GoPro Hero 4 has been sitting at the bottom for several years now. Reward for anyone who returns it dead or alive!

Dave, maybe you should post this as it's own topic in the lost and found section. Given how long it can take canyons to give up their booty, you never know when things might show up. I'm hoping a searchable archive of lost items will make it easier to reunite things when they do appear.

The second guy on that photo (unmistakable identity, even the helmet still the same as on the avatar to the right!) is also smiling. Maybe it wasn't as bad, or the crux is behind where Santa is scrambling, so it's a smile of relief.

haha... Tim I can confirm the camera sadly never came back to life. Not bothered as we were able to salvage the pics anyways.
