wow, all this great information is giving me a headache trying to digest it. By the way, what is the breaking strain on the daggy slings etc. that we feed our ropes through to abseil on.

This track or pad across the back of the Camels Hump has been in place many, many years, well before the closure of the private property access. In the "old" days it was just a different access point to do the canyon. It was also an emergency exit route if water levels were high. Many of our canyons...

Have you encountered any problems with pulldowns of the fiddlestick in regard to trees, branches, rocks etc. With a rope pulldown it tends to flow around most obstacles.

Late decision to go to Freezfest. I arrived at the campground around 0830 and met a few of the brave souls. The wind factor temp was about -4 degrees. A sheepshank on single rope at the top. Keeping weight on the rope cut middle strand (make sure it is the right one), abseil down. Once weight is off the rope the knot comes undone and your rope, minus a foot or two drops down.

Just the same as your device. I just reverse the rope and loop it over the first bar and it works the same as your device.
